The Marjorie Powell Allen Chapel emerges from the treeline at Powell Gardens, its glass-and-timber A-frame rising above the wildflower meadow. Designed by E. Fay Jones — an apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright — and completed in 1997, the chapel is considered one of the finest examples of organic architecture in the Midwest. This photograph frames the chapel the way a visitor first encounters it: at a distance, glimpsed through the landscape, half-hidden by summer growth. The building does not impose itself on the land. It participates in it. The chapel is one of the most sought-after wedding venues in the Kansas City area, and it is the architectural centerpiece of Powell Gardens' 970-acre campus. For anyone who appreciates the intersection of architecture and nature, this image carries weight. Available in multiple sizes and license types. View license terms.
